The truth about skin treatments

Let’s talk about skin treatments.

Who doesn’t love going to the spa. You get time to unwind, and are generally doing something good for your body. It’s a win-win situation. But sometimes we leave the spa after getting a facial, and really all we get out of it is the relaxation.

Self-care is wonderful, but there is nothing fun about spending a good chunk of change on non-effective treatments. So how do you know if you’re getting a good treatment? We recommend knowing exactly what the treatment is supposed to do for your skin, and ask the spa if they have before and after treatment photos to show you when you should expect results.

This week on Facebook live, we did two treatments: a chemical peel and a laser treatment. The chemical peel was to help with acne scars and hyperpigmentation. And the laser treatment was used to help prevent breakouts, which are sometimes experienced after a peel.

But how do you know if a chemical peel is right for you? First, be sure that you trust your aesthetician. Ask them where they were trained and what qualifications they have. For women of color, it’s important for the level of acidity of the peel to never exceed 20%. The purpose of a chemical peel is for it to remove the outer layer of your skin. It’s pretty intensive; so if you love your skin please please please do not try this at home. Yes, you’ll save money but at the expense of your skin.

What should you expect post treatment? With a chemical peel, since the purpose is removing a layer of the skin, it’s normal to experience tightness in your skin the day after, and peeling a few days letter. It’s important to moisturize your skin during this time, and the intense hydra serum is the perfect solution acts as a barrier, and keeps the moisture in.
